How It All Began
A Young Man, A New Land
Our grandfather arrived in Singapore from India as a young man of seventeen. Far from home, he carried little more than determination and an instinct for trade. He apprenticed himself to an established merchant — learning the rhythms of commerce, the language of goods, and the value of reputation built slowly, honestly.
Sagar Trading Is Born
When the time came, he stepped out on his own and founded Sagar Trading. The word sagar — meaning ocean, vast and enduring — could not have been more fitting. What began as a modest trading venture in food staples would grow into a multigenerational family business woven into the fabric of Singapore's commerce.

The Founder
Arriving from India as a teenager, our grandfather learned his craft from the ground up. He established Sagar Trading with a focus on essential foodstuffs — fresh vegetables, coconut, and aromatic spices — building a name synonymous with quality and reliability.
1950s – 1970s
Growth & Expansion
The second generation inherited a business rooted in food trading and deepened its range. Spices, dried goods, and specialty items joined the portfolio. Relationships forged across suppliers and traders strengthened Sagar's standing in Singapore's wholesale and retail networks.
